Non Non Biyori

のんのんびより

Year: 2013 Genre: Slice of Life / Comedy Studio: SILVER LINK.

Laid-back daily life of girls at a rural branch school. Ogawa Town, Saitama is the model.

Synopsis

At a tiny rural branch school in the middle of nowhere, the entire student body—first grader Renge Miyauchi, fifth grader Natsumi Koshigaya, eighth grader Komari Koshigaya, ninth grader Hotaru Ichijo and Komari's elder sister Suguru—numbers all of five. Across the four seasons of the countryside, "Renchon" and friends spend their days catching bugs, splashing in rivers, and playing in the snow in a gentle, slightly magical everyday. Based on Atto's manga; SILVER LINK. produced the first season in 2013.

Why visit the real-life locations

Asahigaoka Branch School is modeled on the former Shimosato Branch of Ogawa Elementary in Ogawa Town, Saitama—an 1874 wooden schoolhouse closed in 2011 and now lovingly maintained by a local NPO for fans. The rice fields where Renchon greets the world with "Nyanpasu!" and the country lanes Komari and Hotaru wander all remain. Parts of Katsuragi Town in Wakayama are also said to inspire the show, so chasing multiple "Nonbiyori" sites makes a charming trip.
