Hanasaku Iroha

花咲くいろは

Year: 2011 Genre: Drama / 青春 Studio: P.A.WORKS

Tokyo girl Ohana works at a hot spring inn in Ishikawa. Set in Yuwaku Onsen, Kanazawa.

Synopsis

Tokyo high schooler Ohana Matsumae is dumped at Kissuiso, a traditional onsen ryokan in Ishikawa run by her stern grandmother, when her mother elopes overnight. Clashing with the strict landlady, the prickly maid Minko Tsurugi, the gentle Nako Oshimizu and the kitchen apprentice Tohru, Ohana faces ryokan life with her trademark cry of "Bonbore!" Produced by P.A.WORKS as the first in their "Working" series and aired in 2011.

Why visit the real-life locations

Kissuiso is modeled on Shuhokaku in Yuwaku Onsen, Kanazawa (Ishikawa), and its surroundings. Yuwaku Inari Shrine, the Yuwaku Sōyu public bath and the Yuwaku Edomura folk village—the onsen town Ohana lives in stretches across the area as-is. The "Bonbori Festival" depicted in the show was so loved by fans and locals that Yuwaku now holds it every October in real life: a rare case where the pilgrimage actually changed reality.
