AIR
Synopsis
A 2005 TV anime by Kyoto Animation, based on Key/VisualArt's visual novel. Yukito Kunisaki, a traveling puppeteer, arrives in a seaside town and meets the frail Misuzu Kamio, drawing him into a thousand-year destiny tied to a winged being who once flew the sky. Dazzling summer light and a heart-wrenching finale make it a beloved classic.
Why visit the real-life locations
The setting is modeled on Mihama, Wakayama. The 4 km white sands of Enjugahama, Hinomisaki Point over the Kii Channel, and the sea-facing torii of Misaki Shrine — the air of "an endless summer" still lingers in this real seaside town.
