Year: 2021 Genre: 青春 / Romance Studio: CloverWorks

A romance by HERO. In Suginami's Nishi-Ogikubo and Machida, the bright star student Kyoko Hori and the shy Izumi Miyamura share their true selves and fall in love.

Synopsis

"Horimiya" is a TV anime produced by CloverWorks and broadcast in 2021, based on the manga written by HERO and illustrated by Daisuke Hagiwara. At school, Kyoko Hori is a bright, popular honor student, while her classmate Izumi Miyamura is quiet and unassuming. After class, however, Hori reveals a homey, down-to-earth side, and Miyamura shows an unexpected face hidden behind piercings and tattoos. By chance, the two discover each other's private selves. As they share the sides they keep hidden at school, they gradually grow closer. It is a warm romantic comedy portraying honest, true-to-life youth and first love.

Why visit the real-life locations

The Horimiya pilgrimage centers on Nishi-Ogikubo and Machida in Tokyo. JR Nishi-Ogikubo Station appears as the everyday gateway the characters pass through, and the Fushimi-dori shopping street stretching from the station's north exit still keeps the atmosphere of the show's townscape. A little further out, the area around Machida Station also served as a model setting, and the Tendon Tenya Machida-Higashi branch by the station is a fitting stop that recalls the unguarded, down-to-earth meals that bring the two closer. Because the story is grounded in ordinary daily life, simply walking the stations and shopping streets lets you soak in its mood.
