Synopsis

"Wake Up, Girls!" is a TV series from an animation project by Ordet and Tatsunoko Production, broadcast in 2014. Set in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, it follows seven girls who end up signed to a struggling talent agency and, as the locally based idol group "Wake Up, Girls!," take their first uncertain steps forward with no idea what they are doing. The harsh realities of show business, clashes and inner conflicts among the members, and a pure desire to stand on stage regardless: this is a work-and-youth ensemble drama that carefully portrays down-to-earth girls growing toward their dreams, set against the streets of Sendai.

Why visit the real-life locations

The sacred ground of Wake Up, Girls! is Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture itself, the town where the girls chased their dreams. The Kotodai Park Open-Air Music Hall, a stage beloved by locals for events and live shows, lets you feel the starting point of their journey as a hometown idol group. JR Sendai Station, the city's gateway, accompanies the story as the departure point for trips to Tokyo and regional tours; walk the station front and the show's everyday scenes unfold. And Sendai Tanabata Street, the arcades known for the Sendai Tanabata Festival that colors Tohoku's summer, is the city's foremost shopping district. Walk Sendai's streets and you step right into the stage of WUG's seven-member youth.
