Himouto! Umaru-chan
干物妹!うまるちゃん
A popular gag manga about Umaru Doma, a perfect beauty outside but a lazy, dried-up little sister at home. The relaxed everyday life set in Hachioji is its charm.
Synopsis
"Himouto! Umaru-chan" is a TV anime produced by Doga Kobo, based on the manga by Sankakuhead, which aired in 2015. The heroine, Umaru Doma, is the perfect beauty everyone admires at school—top grades, athletic, and gorgeous. But the moment she steps inside her home, she transforms into a lazy "dried-fish little sister," sprawling out with cola and potato chips in hand while losing herself in games and anime. The series is a comedy depicting Umaru's two-faced nature and the laughter-filled everyday life she shares with her caring older brother Taihei and her colorful group of friends.
Why visit the real-life locations
The town that inspired the setting is Hachioji in Tokyo. The North Exit of Hachioji Station serves as the gateway and the heart of the town where Umaru and her friends come and go. The Southern Sky Tower Hachioji rising before the station is a landmark that symbolizes the show's urban scenery. Walking around Hachioji City Hall lets you experience the very streets that appear as backdrops to their daily life. Venture a little farther and you reach Enoshima in Kanagawa, a memorable spot featured in the series. Following the seaside views, you can trace the lively everyday world of Umaru and her friends.
