Synopsis
"Too Many Losing Heroines!" (Makeine) is a TV anime produced by A-1 Pictures and broadcast in 2024, based on Takibi Amamori's light novels. Set in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, it follows Kazuhiko Nukumizu, an inconspicuous high schooler who avoids socializing. He happens to witness the moment Anna Yanami, a popular girl at school, is rejected by her childhood friend. From there he finds himself drawn into the lives of various "losing heroines," and through the literature club he watches over their bittersweet romances and comebacks. It is a light-hearted romantic comedy about the sweet-and-sour ache of youth and the sting of defeat.
Why visit the real-life locations
The show is set squarely in Toyohashi, Aichi, with real locations named throughout. Toyohashi Station and its Calmia station building are gateways where characters meet and start their days. Seibunkan Books' main store, memorably featured, is a highlight fitting the literature-club vibe. The vast Nonhoi Park (Toyohashi Zoo & Botanical Garden) is perfect for dates and outings. The historic Toyohashi Park, the retro architecture of Toyohashi City Public Hall, and the waterside scenery of Mukaiyama Oike Park are also worth seeing. Ride the streetcar through town and you can walk the very streets of the losing heroines' youth.
