Synopsis
"One Piece" is a long-running TV anime produced by Toei Animation, airing since 1999, based on Eiichiro Oda's manga. It is set in a fictional world of vast seas and countless islands. Monkey D. Luffy, a boy who declares "I'm gonna be King of the Pirates!", sets sail across the ocean in search of the legendary treasure known as the "One Piece." Along the way he gathers a colorful crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, including the swordsman Zoro, navigator Nami, sniper Usopp, and cook Sanji. Deepening their bonds, they face countless islands and formidable foes in a sweeping tale of adventure and friendship.
Why visit the real-life locations
Though set in a fictional world, One Piece has a popular real-world pilgrimage: the tour of the "Straw Hat Crew" statues in Kumamoto Prefecture. Built as symbols of the region's recovery, these monuments dot the area. The Luffy statue on the promenade of the Kumamoto Prefectural Government Office is a must-see. Extend your trip to the Usopp statue outside Aso Station, the Sanji statue at the Mashiki Town Information Center, and the Franky statue by Takamori Station to enjoy a route linking the prefecture. Beyond Kumamoto, Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki is known for its collaborations, and Tokyo Tower, once home to Tokyo One Piece Tower, remains a cherished spot for fans.

A statue of Usopp has been erected as part of the Kumamoto reconstruction project. The character stands amidst the magnificent natural scenery of Aso.
Mashiki Town Community Information Center (Sanji statue)

A statue of Sanji has been erected in Mashiki Town, which suffered extensive damage in the Kumamoto earthquake. It will watch over the town as a symbol of recovery.
Takamori Station (Frankie statue)

A statue of Frankie has been erected in front of the terminal station of the Minami Aso Railway. It is a symbol of reconstruction, erected along with the restoration of the railway.
Former site of Tokyo One Piece Tower (Tokyo Tower)

Tokyo Tower used to be home to a One Piece theme park. The attractions and shows were very popular.
