Grand Blue Dreaming

ぐらんぶる

Year: 2018 Genre: Comedy / 青春 Studio: ゼロジー

A comedy set around a university diving club. Iori Kitahara gets swept up in the chaos of the "Peek a Boo" diving club from day one. The pilgrimage site is Kawana in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

Synopsis

Iori Kitahara moves to a sleepy Izu seaside town to enroll at Izu University, lodging at his uncle's diving shop "Grand Blue." There he meets the diving club — eccentric divers held together by booze, nudity, and idiocy. *Grand Blue Dreaming* by Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka has been serialized in Kodansha's *good! Afternoon* since 2014, and a 12-episode anime aired from April to June 2018 by Studio Zero-G. The title "Grand Blue" is a diving term for the deep, sunlight-less blue — but the show is mostly sunlit shallows, beer, and rolling-on-the-floor comedy.

Why visit the real-life locations

The setting is **Izu's east coast in Shizuoka Prefecture**. The diving shop "Grand Blue," Iori's uncle's place, is modeled on **Izu Ocean Park (IOP)** ; the nearest station is **Kawana Station** ; the dramatic cliffs are **Jogasaki Coast** — a one-stop pilgrimage for summer diving, scuba, and coastal scenery. Ride the **Izukyu Line** along the coast, dive, gaze at the sea, drink beer by the shore — the show's world made real, perfect for a summer trip.
